I believe the surface of the Clarity touchscreen is plastic. That’s why it scratches so easily just from touching it. I have used a product called Micro-Mesh in the past to take scratches out of polycarbonate aircraft windscreens. The product consists of various fine grit “sandpapers” that you use to gradually get the scratch out. And finally, after you use the very finest “sandpaper” then you use a polishing liquid. You can get it looking like new. Probably with such fine scratches as you have you could just use the polishing liquid to buff them out.

I started to notice very fine scratches or smudges on the touchscreen of my Clarity so I bought a touchscreen protector that is just like the protectors you buy for cellphones. It is made of a very thin hard glass and it works great.

I keep a microfiber cloth in the console for when I need to occasionally clean oily fingerprints from my touchscreen protector. Works like a charm. In my opinion everyone who owns a Clarity should make the small investment in a screen protector if you don’t have one. I don’t understand why the manufacturers skimp on this but the plastic touchscreens will inevitably get scratched.

I ordered one like the above-most link. I'll finally peel off the protective plastic from new, and put it on. Apparently, I really need to be careful when cleaning the surface prior to application.
Yes. If any little bit of dust or foreign matter is under that protector when you put it on it will cause a bubble that will never go away. Most screen protectors come with a fairly decent cleaning swab and then a sticky thing you can use to lift any specs of dust that remain.
