Insurance. Glass is almost always comprehensive and doesn't count against you for collisions.

I was able to add windshield replacement coverage to my insurance policy for $26/year - there's no deductible to meet. I have a feeling it will prove worthwhile: I just returned a leased vehicle for which I had to replace the windshield four times over 3 years.
