Greetings to all. We purchased a 2020 Clarity from Carmax .It was shipped from Vegas to Florida. Delivery trade-in and everything else went smoothly. We are currently adding electric miles to the original 3K the car came with. One of the local Honda dealers (Stewart FL) said that they could service the car. All in all we are happy with our white Clarity and as most of our shopping, entertainment etc needs are within 50 miles return trip, we cancelled our subscription to the gas station.

Yep, I think that’s the mission the majority of us have. I have a 2020 Crimson Pearl Clarity which we purchased in October. Except for a few out of town trips here and there the majority of our driving is within the range of the EV battery. In fact, I can usually go 4-5 days between recharges.

One thing that I would assume, though, is that any Honda dealer should be able to service your car.

Alas no! one dealer said she had never heard of Clarity, and after touching base with her manager she told my wife that Clarity was sold only in California. If so, Toyota (RAV4 plug-in 2021) and Kia (Sorento plug-in 2022) and perhaps others will be eating Honda's lunch in the East Coast. Not to mention Carmax and Carvana who are selling used Claritys anywhere you like. Honda and Clarity deserve better.

Any Honda dealer can service Clarity, it uses the same i-MMD hybrid system as the Accord, CR-V and Insight which dealers are already used to, the only real difference is the larger battery, larger electric motor, the battery cooler and the charger. Even if it's their first Clarity they have plenty of resources from Honda, no different than when any new model arrives and they get their first one in the shop. Then again if they don't seem to want to, or claim that they can't, then probably not the best place to take it.

Rather than concentrating on looking for dealers willing to work on the Clarity, better to just try and determine the overall satisfaction of the dealership service department from online reviews. A shop that does reliable work in general should have no problem working on a Clarity.

As for sold only in California, that was true for most of 2019, but since then Honda has been selling limited numbers in other states as well.

Wow! So I guess it’s a matter of if they’re willing to or not. If a Honda dealer told me they couldn’t service my Honda, I think I’d tell them they just lost a future customer.

Actually, the PHEV Clarity was sold in all 50 states, but with a twist. Most are shipped to California (Fuel Cell was only to California, I believe). Local dealers can get the car from Honda, but they were mostly pulled from CA dealer stock. I had to get mine in Los Angeles. My dealer's salesperson had never heard of either. The sales manager told me they can service it, no problem as they have to order most parts out of the warehouses anyway.

That was true from 2019 on, but not at the beginning. When the PHEV Clarity was introduced in early 2018 it was shipped to all fifty states. California of course got the most, followed by east coast ZEV states, but there were quite a few on dealer lots in pretty much all parts of the country in 2018. The pullback to California occurred in 2019 with a few shipments to east coast states early in the year, and none to anywhere else. By early spring of 2019 they even stopped shipping Clarity to the east coast and only shipped them to California for the remainder of the year. In 2020 they started allowing a smattering of shipments outside of California.
