New 2021 Silver Clarity

Had been bothering dealers for a while to get a deal on one of these, finally got an out-the-door price of $30k six months ago. Haven't driven the thing a ton yet but couldn't be much happier with it so far. That's a good price but wtth the tax break I think it's a steal.

Honda Link isn't the best, and the one time I ran the battery to zero I was getting a high-RPM feel around the 20-30 mph speed I have to figure out. But overall it drives great, doesn't feel in any way like a downgrade from my comparably-sized all gas silver Sonata (was a very good car for me). It feels like a quality-made sedan I won't need to put much gas into at all.

Other than a cupholder phone mount and a screen protector I haven't done much at all to the car. I think a high quality set of tires is in the future, I definitely favor snow performance over efficiency, but let's see how it handles a NJ winter as is.

Overall I'm really surprised these didn't sell that well. It may not be the ideal car for every buyer but there must be a huge number of folks this is perfect for. I had to look it up but the internet suggests the average commute is 16 miles. If I worked in my office it would be about 20 miles each way.

Anyway, figured I'd jump on here and find out what I don't know about the Clarity. Not too many of these around so glad that this forum exists.

Hello and welcome to the club.

I’m in the south so take this with a huge grain of salt but from what I’ve seen from forum members most LRR tires don’t make the best snow tires. YMMV

Second, these cars are proving to be very reliable and mostly issue free.

We have had ours for 4 years (43K miles) and I still get a kick out of driving it. Battery has not declined so we still get 50 EV miles in warm weather so never use gas unless going out of town.

I'm under-using it right now, just now getting the previous car sold but that's at 51k miles after 8+ years for some idea.

Replacing an aging but very good low-mileage car with a new one was a pretty questionable decision. But I work like a dog and what's the point if you can't spend a few bucks here and there. Thankfully between the credit and outrageous price Carvana is giving me on my old car it's worked out pretty well. Good to hear few issues but certainly the YouTube folks and others around the internet seemed to strongly agree that it's been a solid car and I'm year 4 of the generation so hopefully my luck holds up.

Thanks for the feedback on the tires. I'll give the stock ones a year and drive carefully, but if I have to give up some economy for better grip that's more than fine. in my case, at least for now, there's not a huge practical difference for me between 45 miles electric range and 38 or whatever it might be reduced to.

Our stock tires will be replaced soon as the wear is approaching 3/32" in the fronts - we put on 37,000 miles on the original OEM set....

Getting a set of run flat tires since the Clarity does not have a spare.
All my other cars have RFT because I don't want my wife to ever have to pull over for a flat tire in the middle of somewhere.
RFT will allow her to drive safely to a tire shop or public area where she can summon help.

We live in the hot desert southwest where we still get 50-60 miles per charge range all year around so not concerned about LRR / ECO tires for range efficiency.
