Need for Direct Injection Fuel System TuneUp

I think I know the answer to my question but I wanted to run it by this forum to check my gut reaction anyway. I had my 2018 Clarity PHEV Touring in for it's annual service this week and the dealership service advisor came back to me while I was waiting and made me aware the mechanic working on the car recommended I add to my service list a service called Direct Injection Fuel System TuneUp. This was described to me as a process of removing the injectors and blowing air through them to remove built up carbon. I replied back to the service advisor the car was mostly driven in electric mode around town, only driven in hybrid mode on the highways while on round trips of 600 miles or less three to four times a year and in four years has only racked up 23,500 miles. I further challenged him if the car were his under these circumstances would he perform this service at a cost of $248.62? He replied he definitely wouldn't at this time in the car's life.

I didn't perform the service and think I made the right decision. I also don't think I would need such a service for a very long time on this particular vehicle. Does anyone have reason to believe otherwise with respect to this type of service on the Clarity Hybrid in particular?

Good move. This service should have been called the Direct Injection Wallet Lightener.

Yep, especially since it has

Fuel System
Sequential MPI

Not direct injection thankfully as Honda has lots of problems with that

Seriously? I specifically avoided buying a performance air filter to avoid dirtying the intake valves more than necessary….
Save yourself the money, get a good fuel injector cleaner like BG Fuels.

There are lots of info on the Honda "Earth Dream" 1500cc engine 2015 to 2018 in Civics and CR-Vs.

The direct injection is causing lots of issues, there are lawsuits going on.

We have a direct injection engine in another vehicle and the intake valves get gummed up. I opened it at around 50k mi and they were gummed up bad. It’s a real pain taking off the manifold, brushing with an old toothbrush and CRC Intake Valve Cleaner. I left 2 cylinders gummed up because the valves were open and I couldn’t soak it it nor figure out how to manually turn it over…

I’ve been trying to confirm searching online but nothing definitive. Do you have any article or specs for me to read please?
If you type Honda direct injection problems a lot will show up.

Thank you very much @Trolle . I am now considering forgoing installing the Ecogard XA11609 filter that I got, and considering getting a K&N as it's the only performance filter available for the Clarity...

I'd avoid using any performance filter in the Clarity. The car simply doesn't generate that much power and the gas engine is pretty much maxed out already when driving in mountains without any battery. Performance air filters work by using larger holes in the filter walls to allow more airflow through. Unfortunately this also allows larger particles to get into the combustion chambers.
