IPhone iOS Apple Shortcuts for Battery usage guidance.

Hi All,
Frustrated that sometimes I am using gas instead of depleting battery, I have often wished Honda had some fuzzy logic, at least for a few routine routes like commuting to work or going to the grocery store. Does anyone have a solution for battery vs HV mode logic? I decided to work on the below and will try to post if there is any interest.

I am currently working on logic in the Shortcuts app where when the phone goes to Driving Focus an automation runs that:
  1. Requests (via voice) available battery life be entered into the pop up on phone.
Rectangle Font Parallel Electric blue Number

  2. If the distance of battery is less than the distance to destination, the phone says “Please use HV mode if you get on the highway”.
    Sky Azure Rectangle Violet Font

  3. If the distance of battery is more than the destination, then the automation will speak, “Please switch to battery mode.”
Rectangle Font Electric blue Brand Circle

  4. When #1 above is true, the automation checks location every two minutes and when the distance meets the battery available, the automation will speak, “Please switch to battery mode.”

For #1, how do you plan to get the car's available battery range information to the phone?

You would have to enter it manually. (This uses the Ask For functions) I tried to auto-launch the Honda app and screen capture, but there is no automation for copy paste that I can figure out.
Are these things being asked of a driver...while driving?

If there's anything we don't need are more driver distractions.

You would enter the mileage when you get in the car - the pop up alert is also spoken so there would be no need to look at the screen after entering the mileage.

Good to hear.
Since there is already some effort involved in typing or saying the car's EV range, why not simply look at the EV range on the instrument cluster, and the navigation distance on the center display and make the decision yourself?

What would be interesting is if the phone can gather the EV range information from say the Car Scanner app and the OBD port, and compare it to the navigation distance.

Although, the fact that Shortcuts can check the navigation distance to destination is pretty neat itself.

My 2018 Clarity switches from EV to HV automatically when the Lithium batteries run low enough. why would you want or need to be asked to switch??

I think what he’s trying to say is that if you know your car is eventually going to need to switch over to HV mode during a trip then maybe it’s better to let you make the choice of when to switch instead of waiting for the battery to discharge. in some cases it may be better/more efficient to run in HV mode while on the highway than to do it in town with stop & go driving.
