Really enjoying my new Clarity. Still getting the hang of it but really enjoying the almost exclusive use of electricity powering me to and from work. Actually had to use the gasoline engine yesterday and weirdly it felt wrong! LOL I just saw last night something about changing the skins and live wall papers. I want to try those out!

Commute is only 12 miles each way so I can easily make it there and back before charging. Esp easy when there is a free charging station just outside my office building! Although that is starting to get pretty busy much of the time.

Welcome and congrats on your new car! It is a great feeling passing by gas stations, that's for sure especially with the prices we're seeing this summer. Not sure where you're from but I bet you'll see the amount of charging stations increase significantly over the coming months.

I am in San Diego CA and already have a plethora of charging stations so not really an issue (although I am finding myself complaining a lot more about it in some areas where I think they should have one!). But yeah I just drove by a gas station and thought...wow it has been several weeks and 570 miles and not even close to needing to fill up! Love it! I will say I almost went with an Accord Hybrid but happy to have the Clarity!

I live and drive in the midwest, St. Louis. I have a 12 mile round trip commute to and from work, plus a 50 mile round trip to have lunch with my elderly mom daily. With this minimum 62 mile per day commute, I still made it 4 months without getting gas. That is rather amazing. I pretty much only use the level 2 charger I had installed at my office. I could not have done this with the regular 120v level 1 charger. My worst EV range was in March (cold weather) and best in the hottest days of summer (67 miles on a charge!). Love this car!

So do you drive 60+ on ONLY on battery? or is that on HV?

I am just curious (mainly for the weekend) what mode is the best mode to travel in? Run Eco until the battery is totally depleted or run on Eco for 1/2 and then switch over to HV or....another strategy.

3300 miles of noticing how it works

I have about 3300 miles on mine now. I'm retired so church, grocery, and most places I shop are within about 6 miles of my home. I do most of that on battery only. But when I go further or need to get on the highway I select the HV mode. I've been out of town on a few short trips of about 100 miles or less each way and find if I select HV right after leaving, it does a good balance of gas & battery that will get me home with over 1/2 charge left and just needing barely over 3.5 gal to top off. I normally set the cruise at 70 on the hwy.

I've noticed that now and then even when the battery is well charged and driving even at low speeds in battery only mode, the engine will start and stop again after a short period (a few minutes). I think sometimes it does that just to charge the 12v battery. I did notice on one trip where I had run in battery mode down to about 1/4 charge, the gas engine brought it back up to just over 1/2 in about 10 miles of driving. That's good to know. It was in the HV + charge mode. Also the little 'gear' symbol in the power display was indicating a direct connection from the engine to the transmission during steady driving on the highway.

hmmmm i never seem to see the engine run esp when it is more than 1/2. admittedly I am almost always on Eco mode during commute (although about 1/2 of my commute is freeway > 60 mph). Interesting your experience is so different from mine! hmmmmmm

If you take it out of ECO mode and use HV mode especially while on the highway, you'll notice the engine will run on a regular basis. The manual also recommends HV or HV/Charge while on the highway or for any driving at speed. Your economy in that mode on the highway will drop tho to the low 40mpg range. I think they recommend that mode to maintain the battery life span better.

hmmmm interesting i didn't think about the life span of the battery being better if i use HV. I have been using HV very sparingly and commuting on all EV. but recently went to mtns and so had to use HV
