Honda Clarity Plug In - Pricing

I feel lucky that most people do not understand the extreme value of this vehicle, but at the same time it is sad that you don't see more of these on the road. I've been on the wall for awhile and I finally was able to work my local dealer down significantly on price. I did feel bad when they told me that this is the first Clarity Plug in thy had sold even though they had at least ten in stock since March. The all electric model on the other hand has been selling as fast as they can stock it. Anyhow below is a breakdown on how I did for reference for others.

Dealer: Lancaster Honda (California)

Model: Honda Clarity Plug in Hybrid Touring

MSRP: $37490

Negotiated Price: $33500 (-$3990)

Document fee: $80

Sales Tax: $3190 (California)

State DMV: $461 (California)

Tire Fee: $8.75

Final OTD: $37239.75

You do get a good deal.
I also have the touring model and I paid $200 more than you in Clovis dealer called Honda North.
Those are two good deals.

I'm surprised Claritys aren't selling better in CA. Here in Iowa the demand varies widely: in my hometown of 100,000 the dealer has sold only 1 all year, and like many other Honda dealers in Iowa they have 0 or maybe 1 in stock. On the other hand, the Des Moines sales manager told me they are going like hotcakes there, selling them as quickly as they get them in, and don't discount off the MSRP at all. I bought mine from the Iowa City dealer and had to drive away once during negotiations just to get them to take $2,000 off the MSRP. My sense is demand is starting to pick up as the year goes on and word is getting out.
Just signed paperwork in MA yesterday. Got a Drive Green Discout of $4,587 off of msrp. Also will get a $2,500 Massachusetts rebate plus $7,500 tax credit. I’ll miss my ‘16 Accord Touring but basically got a brand new Clarity for $900 after trade-in.
Forgot to say Honda financed at 0.9% for five years.
Yikes, I think you got the deal of the year. Good going and with all of your savings, get a Level II charger installed. I'm loving mine. As a general rule, maybe because of my driving patterns and needs when I put 'Watson' up for the night his charge gauge is somewhere around 50%. I plug him in and the app is set to start charging at 11PM. I noticed this morning it took 1hr and 4 min to top him off. It used to take most of the night when I just had the 110v charge going.

I bought mine in early January, when both state and Federal tax rebates weren't used up. Bought the base model, with the plastic floor mats, trunk protection mat, bag hanger, and 3M door treatment. $36,800 out the door w/ all the fees/taxes, but bought the extended warranty for the electronic parts for another $2k. The biggest issues w/ the family Pruis is a faulty computer chip, which is $60.00 to replace the part, but $1200 for labor because they have to rip out the dashboard. With this car, I worry the computer/electronic issues will be the biggest and costliest. I think they have gone down in price and they have a good financing deal right now, wish I had waited a bit, but I was worried about losing the rebates.
In ny I can get about $3100 off msrp on touring version.

Rickse who got $4587 off msrp was that the dealer discount or did it include something additional for MA drive green program. In ny we get $1700 NYS tax credit in addition to $7500 fed tax credit.

The .9% financing was through Honda? Don’t see that offered on website. I know some deals are state specific down to the county.

Overall how do u like it. Was thinking going accord sport, but with incentives u can clarity for same price.
The $4,587 was a discount that I saw on line while I was looking to buy the car. There were a few different dealers listed with different discounts. I took the page to the dealer I was working with and they just matched the offer without any further negotiation. I saw a RI dealer offering $5,100 through that same website last week. The 0.9% was through Honda financing. I don’t think it was state specific. I absolutely love this car. I traded in a V6 Accord Touring so the clarity doesn’t have the punch that the accord had, but it drives beautifully and has plenty of room for my family. I liked my accord as well but don’t regret the decision to trade it in at all. I have spend $0.00 on gas and since I charge the car at work don’t spend much on electricity either.

Pretty decent deal. I just picked up a Touring edition as well on 8/31. I was able to negotiate down to $32,500. It was an extra bit of negotiation, but just so most of you know, I had a few offers from local dealers in SoCal for $33k. Pretty much no one was willing to budge lower than that (except the price I got).

$32,500 (selling price) + $80 (doc fee) + $2,524.95 (Sales Tax) + $29 (Electronic Vehicle Registration) + $433.75 (Other VLF/Reg/CA Tire Fee) = $35,567.70.

I ended up putting $5k down, and financed the rest at 0.9% financing through Honda.

After the $9,500 of tax credits/rebates (7500 fed tax credit, 1500 ca rebate, 500 sce rebate) I essentially paid $26k for the car, and couldn't be happier with the purchase. My wife loves it and the HOV access!
Saccucci Honda in Middleton RI. I just looked it up (google Drive Green Discount) and it’s now 5,700 off. I should buy another one. :). Looks like the 0.9% financing is still available.
Thanks I found it. The 5700 is not state specific. I believe there is a $3000 cash incentive to the dealer plus whatever else the dealer will give. I think that’s how they discount $5700. In ny they give $1700 not $2500 like MA. Still it’s a great deal. 7500fed 1700 ny and $5700 from dealer. $14900 off on that car is amazing. Thanks for the info much appreciated. I am going to test drive it and see if I like it. I drove the accord and it was nice. Glad I found this forum.
Rick thanks for pointing out that website. Signed a lease on base model for $5750 including DMV. It’s a one pay lease for 10k miles. Where can u get a car that works out to $160 a month. The interest rate on one pay is.25%. I could have done $186 a month for 36 months no money down, but made no sense. Replacing an Audi A6 that was $590 a month. About time I get a govt. hand out instead of always paying them. Ny lease by the way

ClarityPicker,

is the above quote for the touring?
The highest discount I found is only around $3800 off MSRP for the touring version.
I'm in SE PA (south of Philly).
I see it in the title now "Touring for $31,205"
What is the best price you receive from PA dealer?
$34,440, plus processing fee and title & taxes
Thanks.
The lowest price I received via truecardotcom is $33,858.
while I surfed at dealer web sites, I see they do offer $500.00 for college grad student.
If Maryland dealer offers $2000 less, it worth an hour drive to get a car there.
I'm still debating between Clarity and Prius Prime.
