It is very quick from 0-30 or so when it has charge. It is sluggish without charge, so it depends your driving distances. For me, I make 2 round trips per day, one is 50 miles, the other is 12 miles. I have a 240v charger at work and have put 6,000 miles on only 20 gallons of gas (avg. 300 mpg so far although the dash only goes up to 199.9 mpg).
Sport mode will use both gas and electric at the same time. So if you have battery power you should be able to pass on the highway fine. On gasoline alone it would not pass as well as you might like.
For me, this car rocks. My favorite thing is the balance of electric and gasoline backup so there is no anxiety and you could drive this car cross-country. I'm glad I did not pay for a bigger battery because I don't need one. My least favorite thing is probably that the center console is kind of a waste of space and I wish it was a hatchback for more storage in the trunk area.
