Headlights are always on automatically even in day!

Hello!

My headlights are always on, even in the daytime when "auto" is selected. This started about a week ago. Usually the daytime running lights are on in the day and headlights at night. The full headlight indicator is always on in the dash display, regardless of time of day. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

I just noticed my 2018 Honda Clarity PHEV Touring Model doing this very same thing yesterday, Wednesday, 8/5/2020. I was driving home from an appointment and we had just had a severe thunderstorm pass through the area and it got very dark outside for about an hour. But when I came out of my appointment to drive home it was midday and mostly sunny. As I was driving I noticed the Headlights On indicator. I always keep the Lights Stalks control in Auto. I switched the Lights Stalk control position to Off for a few minutes while I was driving and then switched it back to Auto. When I did this the Headlights Indicator did not come back on. I will continue to monitor this over time and if the problem continues I will return to dealer as the vehicle is still within warranty. I suspect it might be a failing or failed sensor.
I have noticed similar behavior often since I tend to leave on auto and my Clarity starts its day in the garage.
If activated on auto and it is overcast or otherwise not that bright the headlights will lights stay on or at least stay on until super sunny. Briefly switching the lights to off then back to auto will have then stay off until nighttime or at least darker conditions. Seems to happen more some months less others. Like so many things Clarity it almost seems random. Probably related to the angle of the sun, particles in the air scattering light, or the % likelihood of an impending zombie uprising.
Also the headlights will activate in auto if the wipers are used but this feature might not be in every model/model year and is probably a setting somewhere.

The lights on with wipers is CA law.
I posted that I noticed this behavior one time during an unusual weather event period. Since that time I have not observed the anomaly and will chalk it up to a sensor being overly sensitive.
