Congrats on the new Clarity!
Welcome!
Welcome!
You have to be a California resident (or whatever state the incentive is for). Back when California was awash in Clarities there were some dealers who were willing to give out of state buyers a pretty good discount. Even after paying for having the car shipped to them the overall deal was usually better than they could get locally. But with the current low inventory of Clarity in California I think it's unlikely that any dealers are interested in out of state sales.I wish I could take advantage in Illinois. Most Honda dealers here know nothing about the clarity. Once offered $800 below MSRP using Costco. I wonder if you have to register in CA to get the $5k
Google Costco Auto Program. Click the first link I believe. It will take you to the site, put on the car you're looking for, then the zip code. It will show the participating dealerships. They'll email you or you can call them.May I ask how? I don't see any special Costco incentives for any manufacturer right now, let alone Honda. We leased a Volvo with costco pricing and it was incredible
I think they know that since the bought thru the program before.Google Costco Auto Program. Click the first link I believe. It will take you to the site, put on the car you're looking for, then the zip code. It will show the participating dealerships. They'll email you or you can call them.
I didn't see it either the first time I checked, I looked using a California zip code after seeing your post. That can happen when you check during the typically brief periods between incentives. After seeing DucRiders post I checked again today and now it says $5,000 for California. However it says the incentive started over a week ago (5/4-7/6), so my guess is that the Costco website was just not updated yet when we looked. Not necessarily Costco's fault as they may have received the information late. But generally speaking the Costco Auto site seems to be a very reliable source of information about factory incentives.May I ask how? Okie-dokey, you had us confused. It wasn't your fault, but virtually every Clarity currently sold is in California, with a few sold in ZEV states, and only a tiny handful in non-ZEV states like Virginia. Since you didn't say where you lived most of us assumed out of habit that it was either California or one of the other ZEV states where Honda currently has a $5,000 factory to dealer incentive for residents of those states. Dealers don't have to pass the incentive on to customers, many don't even mention it unless the customer knows about it, and even then they are not always willing to give all of it up. Costco Auto however seems to do a pretty good job of getting dealers to pass along the entire incentive, although I have heard of dealers that still refuse.Virginia has zero PHEV, hybrid, or EV incentives. They are working on something for it, but they have tried in the past and have failed due to some of our lawmakers. The final paperwork from the dealership, both a printout from Costco and the receipt, show the $5k taken off due to being a Costco member. If I can find it I'd be more than happy to upload it.
Maryland for example would have taken an additional $3500 off (a total of $8.5k off), but since I do not live there, I could not take advantage of this. The other dealerships that I spoke with in the area would not budge from their $35-37k price (after taxes and fees). The one that participated in the Costco program just magically took $5k off, the exact amount a Costco rep said they would. Incredible right?!?
kfoss, if there are no participating dealerships within your area try using another zip code. I had to change my zip several times before one popped up, I ended up driving 4 hours round-trip to buy mine.
Be careful when you deal with a Honda dealer - some are very honest & transparent while others are not and will take monies on the table and not offer it to the consumer. There is (was?) a $5K incentive from Honda in at least some CARB States. Possible that is what the OP got. IIRC, dealers in the Costco program are required to pass those incentives on (Honda leaves it up to the dealer)
Hi there can you please PM the zip code you used to get the Costco discount and the person you have dealt with .Just bought my first new car, 2021 Clarity PHEV, this past Wednesday! Apparently as a Costco member I was able to take $5000 off the dealership price!
Editied: In Virginia. Maryland and Pennsylvania also have a handful in stock.
The discount is a Honda to dealer incentive and available based on your legal address (where the car will be registered). The discount will show for any zip code in any ZEV state, but the car must then be registered there.Hi there can you please PM the zip code you used to get the Costco discount and the person you have dealt with .
Would you mind sharing what dealership(s) were giving the $5000 plus $3500 off? I live in Maryland and am planning to buy one next week. Thanks so much!Maryland for example would have taken an additional $3500 off (a total of $8.5k off), but since I do not live there, I could not take advantage of this.
Update: leased a Clarity base today. Dealer has $3000 + $5000 dealer cash in Maryland to apply to leases. It's a great starting point for a good deal.Would you mind sharing what dealership(s) were giving the $5000 plus $3500 off? I live in Maryland and am planning to buy one next week. Thanks so much!
The Finance Company (Honda Financial in this case) gets the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit and should apply it as a Capital Cost reduction. It appears they are applying only $3K since the $5K dealer cash is also available on purchases.Update: leased a Clarity base today.
