Hello all,

Typically, in this cold weather, my Clarity, when the ICE turns on, I try to warm it up a few seconds. When I accelerate onto street, the engine really whines and sounds like it is in neutral. Last night, It seemed like it really was. I wasn't accelerating. If this was a conventional vehicle, I'd get the transmission looked at.

Also, is there a way to trigger the ICE to turn on to warm up otherwise? I know the goal is to not use the engine as much, if at all, but my commute is 110 miles round trip and have no access to charging or engine block warmer at work.

Any suggestions or words of caution?

Usually I drive in HV mode for a part of the way to work so I have too much EV mode left. Will this turn on ICE if my EV range is low enough (less than half left?)? Is there a setting override this feature?

I notice that unlike my Prius plug-in (not Prime) I can not rev.

I answered my own questions:

1) Battery has to be less than half full to use HV Charge when in park - even when car is cold.

2) Honda Link can be used to warm up car, too, and not just cooling!

I’m enjoying using the app to warm up the car while I’m wrapping it up in the offices night. Ok so I sacrifice a little distance but I can still make it home all Electric. Love it. I wish it would warm up from the app while plugged in though but the app says no to that. What if I used the remote?

Someone said that if it is on 240 it will do that

It will not warm up from Hondalink while connected to 110v Level 1 EVSE unless the battery is completely charged. On 220v Level 2, it can be prewarmed at any battery level. The power required to prewarm is too much for a 110 Level 1 connection.

Now that it is spring, winter is gone (I hope). Here's what I learned about my Clarity from depleted EV range: in cold weather, you need to press and hold the HV button to trigger the HV Charge mode to start the ICE. If I just leave it in HV mode, the engine gets extremely whiny when accelerating. If I run the ICE a little, it warms up and all is good.

The problem I continue to have is on a very cold day when I am fully charged - or at least half full - and I don't have the ability to depend on the full range to get home - I am unable to use the HV charge mode. When I eventually deplete the EV range, ICE turns on and gets whiny. I wish I had charging at work (we're working on this with landlord) but I don't.

Outside of winter temperatures, I love this vehicle.
