Clarity Uber Guy

So I bought my 2018 Clarity 4 months ago and I love the car, which I Uber in almost every day - my riders love it too. I DO NOT love the run-flat, low-profile tires though. We have a lot of potholes in Michigan and I've spent more money on tires than gasoline so far. These tires seem to have very weak sidewalls and blowout often. I wish it had a larger gas tank though, although I feel pretty satisfied when I look at what other people are paying to fill-up.

The Clarity OEM tires are not "run-flats".

Please do a forum search on "tires". There are several threads already addressing your questions.
I have been doing Uber and Lyft with my 2018 Honda Clarity for 3.5 years. The car now has 413,000 km on it. I'm in Ontario. 256,600 miles. I just changed the sparkplugs. Still on the original front brakes. What a tank! It has made me a small fortune and paid for itself many times over.

Hey Guys. How many miles per gallon Clarity can deliver? I run a Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L and my average is 50 miles per gallon in the last 5,000 miles ride. I will appreciate your answer

I can usually count on 40mpg on gas only, after the battery is depleted.
I did a couple of short drives this weekend (5-6 miles each trip) in hybrid mode and only within the city. I drive conservatively and will usually be at the speed limit (30 MPH) or not more than 5 miles over. Temperature was around 45-50 degrees. I've had my car for about a month and drive in EV-only for about 90% of the time.

I've also driven an Accord Hybrid (2020) and would get around 50 MPG.

If I'm not mistaken, those figures include the miles driven in EV mode as part of the numerator in the mi/gal calculation. To get the mi/gal figure specifically for the ICE, you need to drive significant miles on the gas engine only, after depleting the battery, and use only the on-gas miles in the numerator.

I typically get 40-42 mi/gal (highway) on the ICE, depending on speed and terrain.

Those short drives shown on the screen actually were in hybrid-only mode. I forgot I had errands to run on Saturday and had originally planned to recharge on Sunday. I still had some battery left when I began the first of four drives on Saturday. The first trip was in pure EV and I drove with a friend to my work to pick up something. Halfway through the second trip, while I was taking my friend home, I ran out of battery and the car switched to hybrid mode. The last two trips were hybrid-only and are what were represented on the screen.

When I drove on the highway two or three weeks ago, I averaged in the low 40s MPG on that trip. I haven't driven enough in hybrid mode for me to be confident in saying what fuel economy numbers I can get on a regular basis, but the numbers were what the car gave me and the vehicle was in hybrid mode w/ 2 bars battery.

I also took a picture of my instrument cluster when I was leaving my friend's house. You can see the battery level and the available range is estimated at 274 miles. In my previous post with the first photo, the range remaining is 267 miles, 7 miles difference. I used Apple Maps to see the actual distance I traveled which was 5.9 miles for trip 3 and 5.0 miles for trip 4.

That said, I think the large battery on the Clarity will goose the hybrid fuel economy quite a bit since the electricity isn't added to the calculations and the car assumes it is "free" gas. Probably if I had driven much farther (say 40 or 50 miles) then the hybrid numbers would have been lower and more realistic. I recall trying out hybrid mode while I still had half a battery left, and by the end of my trip, the battery level had dropped one bar even though I assumed the battery level would have remained unchanged. But since a bar was used, I'm sure it added to my hybrid MPG numbers that time. I'm also assuming that if I had driven a long distance with only 2 bars of electricity left, the car would have worked the gas engine harder to maintain the 2 bars?
