I spoke with a dealer about this last week. There is something I think he called the "d-bar" - essentially it's the part of the car frame that separates the front seat from the back. The fob/key needs to be to the LEFT of that (toward the front of the car) as you close the final door, or you will get multi-beep. I've tested this numerous times over the last week, and it's accurate. So weird.

I swing my purse over my right shoulder as I exit the driver's seat; so I get multi-beep a lot unless I'm paying attention.

At least if you try to close it again, and it multi-beeps, you'll know to look if the car is running.
