Seems most new cars come with this feature. Am I missing something or did Honda not think of this option a worthy safety feature?
Tommyboy: I had auto high beams on my 2017 Prius Prime Advanced. The lights on that car were amazing. My Clarity's lights are so dim in comparison that I installed some high-end (SAE approved) driving lights that greatly improved my field of vision (and visibility) at night.
The high beams on the Prius Prime Advanced were what I would call near weapons-grade. They put out so much additional light, and at the proper angle. If you flashed them at a driver in front of you (like when someone doesn't move when the light turns green), it would light up the whole interior of their car. I rarely used the auto high beams, however, because they wouldn't shut off quickly enough for oncoming traffic.
The high beams on the Clarity seem pretty weak to me, too. I wouldn't pay $10 to make them automatic because they just aren't that useful. The Rigid driving LED light bars I installed are far better. See the difference in the driver's view of the road with and without them in the photos I attached to a post about them. The difference is quite noticeable in the photos, but even more noticeable when driving:
Added driving lights/LED light bars to my Clarity...
