I took my car in for its first service and it came out much worse.

I took my car in for its first service and it came out much worse.

After getting it back, I realized that the engine is on constantly and worse yet the dashboard indicator is all blue so its not telling me it is on

I called the service department and they said “the computers tells the engine what to do.” I told them that the engine is not supposed to be on 24x7 and it was not before I took it in.

Anyone else experience this?

I've only taken it in once for the 4 TSB updates and did not experience that problem fortunately.

Level of knowledge at dealerships where the Clarity is concerned remains a topic for debate.

Most of the Honda universe doesn't even seem to know the Clarity exists nevermind understand it. Disheartening for sure.

Good luck.

A little update. I now do not think that the noise is from the ICE being on. It sounds llke the motor, but my "gas miles" did not decrease during yesterday's commute. However, something is making a significant noise and it has to do with the speed of the car.

This may not be your issue, however (not associated with a dealer visit) I noticed one day mine seemed to make more noise as speed increased and did not seem to be the throttle. As it turned out, my passenger had cracked the window to talk with someone and when raising it came just a smidgen shy of 'all the way'. Was an easy fix LOL. Just for grins, check all your windows with the switch next time you're in it.
Hope yours is that easy

I took my car back for service and made sure they gave me a loaner as I did not think this would be an quick and easy solution.

I turns out when the rotated my tires, they screwed up the ball bearings. So I will be driving an Accord for a few days. Can't wait to get the Clarity back.

Help me here, What happened during the tire rotation that screwed up the ball bearings ??? After 20 years in the business (retail) and owning north of 200 cars over the years, I've never heard that one before? Your post is making me think back to the days when we had to literally pack the bearings every few thousand miles before the 'sealed' bearings in today's cars.

Now I know after saying that at least a few millennials are scratching their heads LOL. Kids, that was well before cell phones! Even before fuel injectors and we adjusted our carburetors. Back when we could tune our own cars up with a set of plugs & points. Back when our dad's made us change our own oil & filters. Back when ……..
OMG, I just remembered with the flat head and 'over' head valve systems (prior to overhead cams) we even used shims to adjust our own valves. Memories

I'll see if I can get more details when I pick it up. They screwed something up and maybe they don't want to cop to it.

is the Clarity so fragile we have to worry about things breaking during normal service? What could they possibly have done to the car?

I've taken my Clarity PHEV in for service at two Honda dealerships.

The first is the one where I purchased the car. These folks knew what they were doing and left me feeling confident about owning a Clarity.

The second was a Honda dealership from the same group as the first (AutoNation). This one is much closer to where I live (~20 mi vs. ~140 mi.) The first sign of trouble was when they weren't sure I had said the right model when scheduling service. The next sign was when I said the service code was A01. They said "I know what an A0 is, but I've never once seen an A01 before... I'm gonna have to request a tech manual".

Dealer 2 didn't break anything, but they didn't leave me very confident, nor did they leave the interior as clean or better than it was when I came in. I'll be doing all my service at dealer 1 (AutoNation Honda in Columbus, GA) from now on.
