Question Clarity PHEV Nav Map Updates

Im trying to update the maps on my new Honda Clarity PHEV. The instructions say the jump drive must be in FAT32 format. I have a fairly new iMac that will not format a drive to that. Any suggestions or work-arounds?

I have the same issue with Windows 10 v1903. My 64GB USB stick won't format FAT32 without an external program. I was able to format a 16GB USB stick with FAT32. An 8 GB stick should work for the US as the download is 6.92GB. I'm installing to a 16 GB stick and will report back on the actual space used once the Garmin Express finishes writing the USB drive.

Also, the car was able to see and write to my 64GB USB drive formatted to FAT32 using large sectors. 64GB sticks require large sectors because there are too many sectors at the default of 512 bytes, which is why I suspect your iMac doesn't report FAT32 as an option.

I used Rufus 3.5 to format my 64GB drive. In your case I'd search for free USB drive formatters for your version of iOS.

Intersting - as soon as the Garmin Express completed the download and copy to my USB drive it immediately popped up with "update available". Sure enough, there's an update.

These files will fit on an 8 GB drive, but just barely.

no need to workaround, use diskutil tool from the terminal, look at the link below

Most flash drives come in FAT32 format.

Also, for future reference, if you want to play music or audiobooks from a flash drive it, too, has to be in FAT32 format - and the files need to be in MP3, WMA or AAC format. Also, AAC files must be in iTunes format, not any other "flavor" of AAC.

another alternative is to use Disk / Partion Management tool built into the OS to split 32+ GB drive into one 16GB drive and rest can go into the second 'partition'. this will allow you to format the 16GB partition in FAT32 format.

So the Garmin app on my PC notified me that there was a new map update. I downloaded the update but when tried to install it in the car, it said the map in the USB drive is the same map as in the car and recommended not to reinstall the map. Anyone else have this issue?

Very good link!

Use this on your terminal command window on your Mac - Formatting a Disk to MS-DOS fat32 from the Command Line in Mac OS X

diskutil eraseDisk FAT32 DiskNameGoesHere /dev/DiskNodeIDHere
