Level 2 Charger

Will the existing 120 volt charger cable be adequate to use a 220/240 volt power source if a 240 volt "pigtail" adapter plug was created to allow the 120 type then to plug into the 240 receptical? It feels heavy enough to carry the extra amperage. Also does recharging at 120 volts allow a longer life on the battery than recharging with 220/240 volts? I've read something about this but not sure of the complete answer. I think I read somewhere that the Clarity will NOT allow for industrial (level two plus) charging.

There is empirical evidence that the OEM 120V EVSE is the same piece of hardware as the 240V version sold in other countries, the only difference being the plug. This is based on many people using the OEM EVSE on a 240V circuit using adapters. The only problem that people run into is when they purchase a low quality adapter and the adapter gets hot and in at least one case someone had an adapter melt. But using a quality adapter the EVSE itself seems to work fine with 240V, even though it is not specifically rated for that.

There is a thread on this forum which has a lot of good information:

Not sure what you mean by Level 2 Plus. Clarity will work with any Level 2 charger system, although it will only draw up to 32 amps.

Hi Jim,

Yes, your 120v OE Honda EVSE unit will work flawlessly at 240 volts, you'll get a full charge in roughly 5 1/2 hours.
